HouzzDay: Flooring and a link-up!!

I have NO idea what BLOGGER was busy doing last week but this post was scheduled for last Thursday and I just now realized it didn't publish. UGH.
So.... Better late than never? I'll go with that one. Sorry guys!

It's the second HouzzDay on my blog and this weeks theme is FLOORING!

Here is what I've been loving lately:

- photo -

Do you know what it is? If you said hardwood you are WRONG my friend. It's tile! Wood look tile to be exact and I'm digging it. I love the look of wood floors. It's warm and inviting. I makes me think of movie nights on the couch with me, Phillip and somewhere around  three kids (yes THREE). I makes me think of kiddie sleepover with sleeping bags all over the floor. These sorts of things. The problem? If I want wood everywhere (not really everywhere), even the high traffic spots, it will start to show signs of wear much quicker than tile. That's why this wood look tile is awesome. I've seen many different kinds and at first, I was not a fan. I thought it was cheesy, tacky and fake looking. But look at the floors above! THOSE are gorgeous. Right? RIGHT???

Next week: WALLZ!! Now this may seem to sbe imple and boring for you but do not be fooled. There is a TON you can do with a wall to wake up a room. Don't beleive me? Check out HOUZZ.COM and search "walls".

Want to link up? It's easy! Just write a design inspired post for HouzzDayand link up below. This linky will be open all week so you can always stop back in.

Tomorrow = HouzzDay

Tomorrow is HouzzDay.

What is HouzzDay? It's a day to post about home related items. Last week was all about nightstands. What I love, wish I could have, and probably will settle on.
If you are into home design, feel free to join in on the fun. Simply write a decor/design related post. Be sure to check out, Pinterest and for great inspiration photos and link up tomorrow.
You can use my theme or pick whatever your heart desires. The most important thing is to DREAM big and hopefully you can inspire yourself and others. It's great to see what others would pick for their dream home and maybe it'll be something I can add to my LOOONG list of wants and must haves.
Check out last weeks post here

Pumpkin, Pumpkin Everywhere!

Yes it is. And I love it. Here is what's making me all tingly inside. Be sure to check out the recipes that go along with the pictures!

Pumpkin Bread
I made this recipe on Sunday and it is AMAZING. Tastes like the one at Starbucks - no lie.

Pumpkin Pancakes

I saw these on Double The Fun blog and have been wanting to make them. I tried a few times this weekend but we kept coming back from the grocery store without an ingredient or two. GRRRR!

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Everyone seems to be raving about Starbucks punpkin spice latte. I am a lover of starbucks but I don't think I ever had this drink. I found this recipe and will be trying it soon.

Pumpkin Paint

Ok, this isn't making me "all tingly inside" but I wanted to share a story. A few years ago when we moved into a new house it was around this time of year meaning??? Meaning all I was thinking about was fall. I desperatly wanted to go on a vacay in the Crolinas to see the leaves change but.... we didn't. So? Without realizing it, all of my decor choices ended up being Fall themed. The name of that paint is PUMPKIN BUTTER! And the picture is decieving, it's more pumpkin in person (say that 5 times fast).

I actually hated it because I painted all the main spaces in that color and it made the house so DARK!

Do you remember my Hump Day Bump Pics?? I used a shower curtain as my background for many of the pics. That shower curtain was also part of my fall inspired decor choices. Seriously, it was practically the entire house. See example below:

HouzzDay: Nightstand Inspiration / Link Up

I officially declare today... HOUZZDAY*!
And my first HOUZZDAY is all about nightstands

I've talked about how I can't wait to buy a new home so I can finally settle in somewhere and focus on creating a bedroom I can be proud of. Well, I don't know when that's going to happen and... my patience to redo my room is running thinnnn. So I'm not waiting anymore. And since I'm still on a itty bitty budget, I'm scouring the internet (mainly Houzz) for inspiration, to help narrow down what I really really want (for some reason I'm feeling like a spice girl right now), and to do it on a BUDGET.

First up is the nightstand. I already know what I want in a bed and have started working on that so I'm trying to finalize inspiration for my nightstand.

In my dreams.....

Closer to reality...

This last photo is a Ikea Rast Dresser hack. The dresser is $39.99 but it's raw (not painted). It's perfect for a DIY project. Here is one example from another blog. Her link is below the picture.

I love how something so simple and blah turned into that! I would probably go darker in the wood color (closer to a black stain) and I have some different ideas for drawer pulls. Stay tuned because I will be attempting my own creation in the coming weeks!

Do you have any other ideas for me to recreate a contemporary style dresser on the cheap? What do you think of the two toned look? Do you think I can pull off something closer to the above photos? Do share!

You can also link up to share your own HOUZZ ideas. Whatever decor kick you're on at the moment, I want to hear about it! The linky will be open for a week so feel free to join in and since I know this is super short notice (or none at all) I will have a new linky up next week!

* If you don't know what Houzz is, you're missing out. It's an online inspiration board/source for everything for the... you guessed it, HOUZZ!

Chic Stole My Look: From Mrs To Mama

So do you ever watch E's Fashion Police? I do and that's why I'm totally copying their BLANK stole my look segment.
The bloggy world version
And first up is Becky of From Mrs. To Mama. This is an outfit she wore a few months back to the zoo. I clearly thought it was super cute.
I'm loving: the red jeans and how that shirt makes it look so effortless and those Toms make it seem comfy
I'm NOT loving: that I'm not the one looking so beyond adorable in those red jeans.

And my *stolen* version
Where: Old Navy dressing room
Sporting: Red Corduroy's and a striped top

Clearly this was just for fun. Fun it was. And if you're wondering, I got permission from Ms. Becky ;)
p.s. How cute is she by the way? The answer is too. cute.

Outdoor Family Photo Session

A few weekends ago we drove up to Orlando (yes, AGAIN) to meet with the sweet Jen who did our first ever family photos. This was a big deal for me. I waited SO long for this day. A family of three. Us with a little one.
Here are just a few photos from that great day.

We had a blast and we're so happy she could capture this moment in our lives. If you're wondering how to get a 6 month old baby and a 1 year old (my niece was there too) to look at the cameras... Rap songs and gangster dancing go a loooooong way. And yes, we looked ridiculous but it worked.
Drop it like it's HOTT!

What I'm Loving

Ikea picture frames Now that we have some family pictures done, I can't wait to frame and display them. They're inexpensive and they look good.
I have some of these frames around the house already. You can see two of them in our nursery on the right.
RIBBA Frame IKEA The mat enhances the picture and makes framing easy. PH-neutral mat; will not discolor the picture.

Jeans with STRETCHHHHH. And I'm loving these from Old Navy. It probably has something to do with the fact that I snatched them up for $10.

Timberland Women's Boots and at 65% off, why not?? These will be on Zulily in two days. Sign up now so you don't miss out!

Monthly Update: 6 Months

My Sweet Boy,

You are 6 months old and I just can't wrap my head around that. You are at such a FUN age and we see more of your personality come out every single day. So far, you are a sweet boy who is soooo well behaved. You are interested in everything around you and since day one, you stop to listen to every word spoken to you. I get asked if you're a mama's boy. At times yes but to be honest, Daddy can make you melt the same way I can. It's very rare that you just want me over your daddy. Speaking of your daddy, you know this more than anyone but when you're older (and rebellious) I want you to look back at this and be reminded of just how amazing he is. I have never met a man like him. He is so hands on and will drop anything for us. When he walks in the door after a long day at work he does two things. He runs to the sink to wash his hands and then says your name to get your attention. The way his face lights up for you and the way you return the love and expressions... it turns me to mush every time. How on earth? What did I do to deserve this wonderful family? I ask myself that often.

You are my heart. And Daddy's too. Please, never forget that.

Your Mama

Even though this started about 2 months ago, this month you really got crazy with scooting and last night.... You crawled! It was only about 2 inches but YOU CRAWLED YOU CRAWLED!

You continue to sleep so well through the night. We struggled with this around 2-3 months of age but the hard work paid off.

You take 2-3 naps a day about 2 hours long.

You started rice cereal 2 weeks ago. It was not easy getting you to eat it but the last few days have been a different story. You open WIDE and you love it.

Your uncle got married on Sunday. It was beautiful but... it started at 7:20pm. We were nervous with how you would do since you normally go to sleep at 8:30. You surprised us all by sticking to your schedule. You fell asleep in your stroller at 8:30. We didn't leave til 10:30 and we walked into mima's house at 11:30 but you just slept through it all.

Sitting! You are improving although this is not something you like to do. You want everything around you so unless I hold a toy in the air for you, you throw yourself into every direction.

6 Month Check-up:

You gained weight!!! After the whole breastfeeding ordeal and seeing you lose weight, this was exciting.

weight - 17 lbs 14 ounces 54 %
height - 28.5 inches or 98.83 %
head circumference - 17.5 inches

In other words? You are long and lean.

We LOVE you, we love you!!!

Finding My Groove

These last two months have been amazing. We have grown a lot. Both of us. Cruze started sitting, scooting, hopping (his efforts to start crawling I assume), he has developed quite the sense of humor and oh my my, I am so madly in love with this little boy. I've mentioned here and there about my difficulties getting out of the house with a baby, with living away from friends and family and with getting the hang of things with my little man. To tell you the truth this is one thing I did not expect in a million years. I thought I would be such a natural and I would be the same get up and go girl I have always been. WRONG. I was soooo terrified to leave the house the first few months and I'm sure the lack of familiar faces and places played a huge part in that. But it left me... sad. I hate admitting that. I hate knowing that "sad" is an emotion I felt during the happiest time in my life. It didn't make much sense and that? Knowing that, made me even sadder. I knew I had to find my groove. I knew my husband and I had to figure a way to keep our relationship on fire. I knew I needed to remind myself of who I was and who I needed to be. And by doing that, I knew I would better be able to succeed at my role as a mother.

No one really tells you these things starting out. The same way they don't really tell you that what comes after a kick butt labor and delivery just might be the worst pain of all. And that the intense contractions is just getting the party started for what's to come (in my case at least). There must be a reason why these things aren't mentioned often. Really, who wants to hear all the negative things? Who wants to admit, I had a really hard time when it seems like everyone else is rocking at it? And most of the time, when all is said and done. When all of the hard times have passed and what you have left is such a miracle, who really remembers the lows? I think this is a good thing, a protection. But at the same time, I think it would be really helpful for other new moms to hear that they're not alone. Sometimes being a mother doesn't come as naturally as we'd expect and some days are harder than others. Eventually though, we all find our rhythm and I'm happy to say we are finding ours. I still have a hard time being alone in this town when the hubby is off at work but we really are getting it together.

How? A big part is forcing myself out of the house. Even if there is no where special to be, getting out and interacting with other adults is so very important. Being active is another huge help. Pilates is my go to exercise and family walks in the evening make me feel so good. And of course, there's the schedule. We follow the eat play sleep schedule and it has been amazing for our little family. Not just for Cruze but for this mama and daddy too. We ALL needed this schedule. Having a predictable schedule and knowing what to expect next. It's exactly what we need. More to come on this in a future post.

This sweet boy turned 6 months old on Tuesday!
The biggest help of all? Learning to let go of perfection and to stop comparing myself to others. Let's just say it has been a struggle. It's something that I'm learning to do for my own sanity. Not thinking about what isn't done and what I'm unable to do and just focusing on the little moments that take my breath away. There are many. This is how I'm finding my groove. Remembering that I want to LIVE in these moments. Not wasting the now to think about how quickly time is flying. Because before I know it? I will have spent every moment anticipating the future, fighting with my inner self about what I'm lacking and then... one day I will be regretting the fact that I didn't take it in when I had the chance. This will NOT be me. I'm making myself a promise to not live in yesterday or tomorrow but NOW, today, right here. And THAT is how I'm finding my groove.

Show and Tell Linkup: Fall Is In The Air

It's Monday and that means I am once again linking up with Becky over at From Mrs. To Mama. This weeks them is all about Fall. If you know anything about me you know that I might have a slight obsession with fall. Everything from the weather to the fashion. I love it all! I'm originally from New York and living in this Florida heat is killer. All year long I wait for my favorite season to be here. As soon as the temp starts to drop, out come the boots, scarves and hats.

Here are the questions...

Tell us what you are looking forward to this fall

I have been begging the husband to take me on a trip to the Carolinas to experience the changing leaves for a few years now. This year it is happening! I gave him a kid, I'm getting this trip! haha I am desperately looking forward to sitting near a fireplace with a blanket and tea in a sweet cup with the mountains as our view. I'm not sure if I'll get the vacation I'm imagining but that's the goal here.

Show us your fall style.
falll <3Fall fall fall!!Jen Aniston - love her and her styleSixties Inspired cute knithottFall Style

Tell us your favorite things to do in the fall. If you have children, activities to do with the kids?
Ahhhh, sitting outside of a coffee house with live music. The coolish air hitting my skin. Love that feeling. I also love hiking and long walks.

Show us your favorite fall beverage.
Not technically a "fall" beverage but this is what I drink in the fall. A white chocolate peppermint mocha preferably from Starbucks. Apple Cinnamon Tea is pretty delish too.
